It is time for us to draft a Covenant for Kol Tzedek. Using the
Reconstrutionist way of doing business, the whole community is invited
to take part in drafting what we want to expect from each other.
Here is the process: There will be FOUR Covenant Meetings where
we will start by learning what a congregational covenant might look
like, using materials from other synagogues as examples. Then, we
will put together a first draft of a statement for Kol Tzedek. This
statement will go onto the website for your comments. Finally, we will
revise the statement and put it to a vote at our next Congregational
Meeting in the Spring. You are ALL not just welcome but heartily
encouraged, to attend some or all of these meetings. You are ALL not
just welcome, but strongly advised, to read the draft statements and
give us your suggestions. You are ALL not just welcome, but expected
(if not exactly coerced) to show up at our annual Congregational
Meeting.
1) KT Covenant Meeting, Thursday, February 26, 2009. We will learn what a
congregational covenant might look like, using materials from other
synagogues as examples.
2) KT Covenant Meeting, Sunday, March 8, 2009. We will start to draft our
own covenant statement.
3) KT Covenant Meeting, Sunday March 22, 2009. We will look at our draft
and revise, as needed. Then, we will make our draft available to all
of you on the web.
4) KT Covenant Meeting, Sunday, April 19, 2009. We will look at your
comments and make changes. We will post the revised statement on the
web.
At the Kol Tzedek Congregational Meeting that usually takes place in May or June, we will vote on the statement.
Remember that when G-d, may Her Name Be Praised, gave us Her
Covenant, She held a mountain over our heads. At least, at Kol Tzedek,
it is not that dire. You All Take Part, You Hear!
