Social Justice @ Kol Tzedek

Social Justice

Kol Tzedek means Voice for Justice. We are committed to being a voice for justice in our neighborhood, communities, city, and nation. As a congregation, we engage with social justice issues in a number of ways. Through our services and programs, we reflect on Jewish sources for social change and the ways in which Judaism motivates us to be agents of positive change in the world.

For more information or to get involved, email Tav Aronowitz at [email protected].

Working Groups

After the election in November 2016, KT members felt that we needed to increase and expand our social justice efforts as a community. Congregants came together to explore: why do we organize for justice as a Jewish congregation? What issues, campaigns, and struggles in our city and the world could we support as a congregation and community? Below is information on some of our working groups, and who to contact to get involved.

Black Lives Matter & Anti-Racism
The Kol Tzedek for Black Lives Committee consists of Kol Tzedek members who are interested in bringing down white supremacy! So far, we have engaged in this important task by hosting Matan Tzedek programming (giving circles) in support of black- and brown-led grassroots organizing, cop watch trainings, book club meetings, and anti-racism workbooks. If you would like to get involved in planning action to support justice for black lives of West Philly, you can contact Kevin Moseby and Tav Aronowitz at [email protected].

POWER
We are a proud member of POWER: Philadelphians Organized to Witness, Empower and Rebuild, a consortium of faith communities from across the city that organizes Philadelphians to make our city a better place. Through POWER, we are working on making Philadelphia a city of opportunity for all. Read more about POWER's work here, and join our efforts to bring to our city good jobs and great schools, as well as a pathway to citizenship for all immigrants. For more information, contact Tav Aronowitz at [email protected].
